TINY TOMES
Music, podcasts, audiobooks, automations, smart scenes and more!
How-To Guide
Follow these steps to create a Tiny Tome with optional carousel
Prerequisites
You need to have Home Assistant set up and Music Assistant installed as an add-on.
Parts List
- 3D Print files (includes Tiny Tomes and optional carousel)
- RFID tag stickers (25mm)
- RFID reader (the carousel has a cavity designed for the Adonno preassembled RFID reader)
- 63.5 x 38.1mm labels (I used Gloss White Inkjet Labels (UK). You could also try these from Amazon.
- Label template (you can create the labels yourself or use this Photoshop PSB template)
- Sticker print template (.docx) (note: you may need to adjust the margins to suit the spacing of your stickers)
1. 3D print the parts
Print as many Tiny Tomes as you need using a 3D printer. The carousel holds 30 Tiny Tomes.
Optionally print the carousel parts to display your Tiny Tomes.
I used the Bambu Lab P1S to print these parts.

2. Assemble the Tiny Tomes

Place an RFID tag sticker into each Tiny Tome.
Design your labels. Go to town and make them beautiful or simply insert some text! Feel free to use my Photoshop template if that helps.
Print your labels using an inkjet printer and wrap them around each Tiny Tome, like a book cover, enclosing the RFID tag sticker inside. The spacing of the stickers may differ depending on the brand, but you’re welcome to use or adjust my sticker print template (.docx) if that helps.
3. Program the Tiny Tomes
Open the Home Assistant app on your phone.
- Click ‘settings in the left menu’.
- Select ‘tags’.
- Click ‘add tag’. Give it a name.
- Click ‘create and write’.
- Tap the Tiny Tome with your phone to write to it.
- Then select the tag name in Home Assistant and click the option icon and choose ‘create automation’. Then add the triggers and conditions to your heart’s content!
Be creative! You don’t have to limit yourself to audio – you can also use it to trigger other automations, like cleaning, curtains opening, lights on and much more!

4. Assemble the carousel

The carousel is an optional display unit with reader. You could instead use your phone as an RFID reader, or use the RFID reader alone.
But to build the carousel, place the wheel onto the axel in the carousel base.
Insert the RFID reader into the cavity in the base.
Place the lid on the reader to cover it.
Decorate the centre cap of the carousel if you wish! I used my XTool M1 Ultra to cut some textured gold vinyl into a nice pattern! This part can then be placed on the centre of the wheel. If you have an XTool F1 Ultra you can laser etch onto certain types of PLA colours (e.g. black but not white).
5. Enjoy!
Place all of your Tiny Tomes into the carousel.
To use, simply place a Tiny Tome in the Tiny Tome slot above the hidden RFID reader and smile as your devices spring into action!

Good Luck! And Let me know if you have any other creative ways of displaying your Tiny Tomes!
